Cashiers Cage Scene

A good friend just called from M-Bay. He had played 2 days and 2 nites. He colored up each time he left the BJ table. He never went to the cage. Kept money in his hotel safe. (I know, that%26#39;s another story). Prior to checkout he went to the cage. He has $6500. 7 big chips. They won%26#39;t cash him out. They want his name, ID, and finally get a manager etc. Why??? Counterfeit concerns? Federal moneylaundering laws maybe?? He swears he colored up at the table so it%26#39;s not a problem with their count....comments??

The only thing I can think of is because of Taxes on the $$$. Maybe he should have cashed in a little at a time. I am not sure what the ';cap'; is before they report the win, but that could be the issue.

Cashiers Cage Scene

No, Dusty. That%26#39;s never happened to me for more than that. Also, why the manager??? He had bought in w/ his players card for a few thousand, so it%26#39;s not all winnings anyway...strange.

I doubt it was counterfeit concerns. The casinos do a pretty good job at spotting that. The big chips were Barney%26#39;s I assume? I%26#39;m guessing they were questioning that your friend actually won them. That does sound odd, cashing in $6500 isn%26#39;t really that big a number.

Recently I cashed in $7,500 at Mandalay Bay and was questioned for the first time. They just recently changed over from One Club to Players Club and it appears the new personnel are not very friendly. I was asked if I wanted it on account and when I said no I was rudely told that my credit line would be held if I did not want it on account. I said okay I won%26#39;t gamble here then. I have cashed in many times and never had a problem and I gave them my card. It was very clear that I won because I was rated at the time. I think they are being careful but of what I don%26#39;t know.

you said they won%26#39;t cash him out - is that still true, he didn%26#39;t get his money? you don%26#39;t mention.

did he ask the M-Bay manager? what was the response?

i don%26#39;t think asking for an ID and a manager is cause for concern if he did get his money.

All he did was show up at the cage to cash out with fully colored up chips. Vegasdragon seems to have an answer, as his/her experience was very similar. My friend did not ask for a manager. The cage people had to call one over for authorization. They sure didn%26#39;t have trouble taking his money. maybe that%26#39;s why Wynn is using RFD chips in their higher denoninations..

under - i think you misread my response.

I%26#39;m asking did your friend ask the manager - not ask FOR the manager.

in other words - what response did he get when your friend asked why a manager was called. if he got his money and all he had to do was show ID and a manager was called to confirm the transaction that seems acceptable to me.

It also may be a function of timing...

It is not uncommon when cashing in high denomination checks for the cage lady to ask what table (or pit) you won them at.

Sometimes that generates a quick call from the cage to the pit for confirmation...but it has never been a problem to undertake successful conversion.

At classy joints (who care about their players), the pit has already notified the cage that you are on the way over to cash out before you arrive.

But, by delaying the conversion you interupt the easy, establihed verification process and the answer to the first and foremost question on the part of the casino....';Did you acquire the chips legitimately.';

Given ever-tightening cash transaction oversight and notification, the natural cynicism and distrust in the modern casino industry, and the consoildation of ownership and resulting ability to set industry-wide rules, I guess we should all expect greater scrutiny in the future.

Oh, it is virtually impossible for large casinos such as Mandalay Bay to account for the whereabouts of all its chips; even just the high denomination ones...so there are no ';counting out the till'; procedures on that scale which would help a single cash-out effort.

At any given time, in addition to those racked on 50 tables (some in play), in one of 10 cage tills, or stored in the vault, there are millions in pockets just walking around the casino floor, stored in guests%26#39; safe boxes, or kept long-term as souvineirs.

Bridgefan, REAL good point. No he just went thru it all and then called me to complain, since he knows I%26#39;ve stayed at every hotel there...of course if he%26#39;d asked, he wouldn%26#39;t have been at M-Bay...

Amberloo..your take is so very well appreciated. I actually was hoping this post would catch your eye. Thanks to all...
