TR 8/14-17 - Golden Nugget

Background - married couple and a friend, late 30%26#39;s and early 40%26#39;s. Flew from Ontario, CA Monday morning on Southwest. Did take a little longer than usual, but not that bad. Arrived on time, however, we were traveling with Grandma (86) and had to get her on a plane to Tulsa at 2:00, so my husband and his friend left and I stayed with Granny and played slots/poker while we waited for her flight. I actually won $100, but gave most of it to Grandma so she could keep playing. She kind of just pushes buttons willy nilly, but she had fun, so who cares. Got her off and took a cab to downtown.

Checked in at GN and got a room in the South Tower, but close to elevator. We have stayed at the GN many times and have always had a great experience, and this time was no exception. For any of you going soon however, they have combined the buffet and the coffee shop into one until the buffet is revamped, so the line was most of the time fairly long. We ate there one time in order to use our $40 dining credit, but only waited about 10 minutes. I can imagine on the weekends however it could take a lot longer. For the rest of the day we walked Fremont and hit various casinos, drinking and basically throwing money away, but it was fun!! Finally went to bed about 2:00.

Got up early the next day, hit Starbucks, and took the Deuce to the Venetian. FYI, you cannot take drinks on the bus, so finish those expensive coffees before getting in line to get on!! We had breakfast at the Grand Lux, excellent Eggs Benedict, but terrible service. Our waitress had a serious attitude, and I%26#39;m sure it was worse when she saw our tip, but hopefully she was nicer to the next people. We then went through the shops, and hubby bought me a Brighton purse for my birthday!! Ladies, I know you can appreciate that. I knew I had to catch him before he started losing too much!! Continued to walk the strip, hopping in and out of various places, gambling a little here and there. Eventually, ended up at Harrahs to check out Toby Keiths place, and play the big WOF machine. We were all excited to get a spot, and 10 minutes later, all too happy to give it up!! It is fun, but dang we were cold and lost $100 quick. Time to move on! We walked to Aladdin and did some more shopping and then hung out in the sports bar for a few hours. Eventually headed back to the Flamingo where we met some friends for dinner at Margaritaville. The atmosphere was fun, but the food was not that great and I was very surprised that the Margaritas are served in regular glasses and not Margarita glasses. Kind of took the fun out of drinking them, but not completely!! Left there about 7:30 and caught the Deuce back downtown. The trip back took forever and the busses were packed, so next time I think we will take the Deuce in the morning and cab it at night. Wasted too much gambling time! Stayed the rest of the night gambling in the Four Queens.

Our friend left the next day, so hubby and I had a very lazy, casual day just walking around Fremont street. We went to the Plaza, the Cal, Main Street, back down to Binions, Fremont, Fitzgeralds and ended the night once again at the Four Queens. My husband plays 21 and craps, and he swears by this place. I mostly play slots, and I really like the I Love Lucy machine, so we stayed there until about 2:00 a.m. We were both up and down, but that is why I love downtown, because at least I feel like I can play for awhile!!

Got up and left the next day, this time hiring a sedan to take us to the airport. It was only $40 total, including tip, and much nicer than a cab. No problems at the airport and got home on time. Overall, we didn%26#39;t win, but any trip I come home with cash still in my pocket I consider a good trip!!

Thank you for taking the time to write your report...enjoyed it! I bet grandma enjoy playing the slots at the airport!

We are staying at GN at the end of September. One of my traveling companions is not well. Can you make a suggestion on what tower we should request that requires minimal walking?

Brenda :~)

You should definitely ask for the North Tower. There is a long walk way to get to the South Tower, while the North Tower is located right next to the lobby and the casino. Have fun!!

Thank you for the tower information!
