We are staying at the Barbary Coast and have yet to see the Downtown section but not sure whether the shuttle goes that far or whether to take the hire car. Heard it is a bit dangerous to park in that neighbourhood - do any of tghe downtown hotels have self-parking?
Downtown getting there %26amp; parking
All major Downtown hotels have valet and self-parking. The main area of Downtown (within the Fremont Street Experience) is perfectly safe. Some would say it%26#39;s safer than parts of the Strip due to its large police presence.
Downtown getting there %26amp; parking
Getting to downtown from the strip is easy...we took I-15 and took the first exit that said ';downtown';, followed it all the way into downtown and ended up right at Golden Nugget valet on the right. It was easy to get to. Leaving, the young man at valet told us an easy way to get back to the highway and the strip. We, too, were staying at BC, but our friends had the car and we always valet parked at Flamingo. Always valet park, all it costs you is a small tip and it%26#39;s alot more convenient than self parking.....
Is there a shuttle/bus or any means of getting there from the strip besides hire car or taxi? If we made a night of it we might not want to abstain from drinking as driving.
All downtown hotels have self parking. Some require validation, for which you just walk by the cashier%26#39;s cage on your way through the casino and stap the tickeyt in the self-service machine. Easy. Main Street Station is one I know that does not require validation.
If you have no trouble walking short distances, it%26#39;s not worth the $6 to tip the valet on either end in my opinion, nor the wait to get your car back.
Not dangerous at all, especially if you use valet. Here%26#39;s how I go downtown from the strip. (most taxis take these routes as well):
If you%26#39;re mid-strip, or on the north side of the strip, go N on Las Vegas Boulevard to the Y, veer left onto Main Street at that Y, go N to Charleston Blvd, turn right, go to Casino Center Blvd, turn left, Golden Nuggett valet will be straight ahead on your left. Pay $2.00 when you pick up your car.
If you%26#39;re towards the south end of the Strip, take I-15 N to the Charleston Blvd exit, go right (east) to Casino Center Blvd, turn left, GN valet will be ahead on your left.
Instead of I-15, (if it%26#39;s backed up - say during rush hour), you can take Industrial road (west of LV Blvd) to Wyoming/Oakey, turn right, go to Casino Center Blvd, turn left, GN valet will be ahead on your left.
I always valet park, everywhere. Vacation time is too precious to waste looking for a parking space, walking unnecessarily, and validating parking stubs. When you valet park, you%26#39;re right there at the front door. Tip $2.00 when you pick your car up. Tipping when you drop it off is not the norm, and not expected.
If you have a rental car it is easy to get there. I reccomend just driving north on Las Vegas Blvd to get there. You will pass a lot of the local wedding chappels , tatoo joints., ethnic restaraunts. %26amp; cheap strip jounts. It is so tacky it is worth seeing. You miss out on a lot of local flavor by taking I-15 .
The Golden Nugget parking garage, or valet parking is the way to go.
lilbunny you sure seem to think about parking as I do.
Once again a self-park ? recommends valet. Dont you have to stand outside in 100 degrees to wait for your car? Dont the poor valets have to make the long trudge to get the cars for you? How would you feel if someone gave you $2. in that heat?
DUH I just realized that self park garages are not A/C and we will be doing a lot of walking in 100 degree heat. Im really getting bummed about trying to avoid being outside during the day there with all the concrete.
i think the shuttle is meant to be the monorail and no it does not go there.
There is the Deuce bus as well.
Wanderfest - you%26#39;re over-thinking this, it%26#39;s going to be okay! You will be pleasantly surprised I think at how having a rental car will keep you from having to spend much time walking in the heat. The garages are warmer, sure, but being made of thick concerete and shaded, they are not as hot as walking in the blazing desert sun. And truly, it%26#39;s just a walk from your space to the elevator, and then you%26#39;ll be deposited into an air conditioned hallway to the casino, or the casino itself.
Some hotels, like Boulder Station %26amp; Hard Rock have flat lots, instead of garages, and during the day you can practically park right outside a door and do most of your walking inside.
Honest, it%26#39;s not as bad as it sounds like you are afraid of it being :)
once again thanks lil bunny and you%26#39;re right. My other just yelled at me an said get off the forum you are going to ruin our trip by all this.
On your maybe non-drinking, good luck if that means you are looking at strollers to haul thru the casinos soon.
