Excalibur- I mean is it really that bad???

Hi- I%26#39;ll be visiting LV Sept 6-9 and I can get a free room at Excalibur. My husband %26amp; I stayed at NY NY last year. Now I know that Excalibur is not nearly as ';nice'; but is it all that bad? All I really care about is clean and close to MGM Grand (our friends will be staying there- but we%26#39;re trying to save the $$$$). So is it clean? I know there are lots of kids but I really just need a bed to sleep in? Am I gonna regret this? Also- how is the pool? Does anyone know- if all my friends (3 other couples) are at MGM- can we go to the pool with them there?

The Excal would never be my choice but as it%26#39;s free and probably meets all your requirements then you should probably stay there.

Regarding the MGM pool. Officially you need to be a resident to use the pool and they%26#39;ll probably check keys. As there%26#39;s a total of eight of you you should be able to shuffle the six keys around in order for you all to get in. Whether that%26#39;s a morally correct thing to do is for you to decide!

Last September, we spent 4 nights in Vegas and were trying to economize, so we decided to try the Excalibur at $69/night. Once we checked in and got to our room, we spent approximately 10 minutes there (while I used the room%26#39;s phone to call the MGM and book a room there instead). I have to say, that the room was run down, worn out and dirty. The bathroom was outdated with a glass door that had water stains. My cousin and I were so grossed out that we couldn%26#39;t stand the thought of staying there one night. We moved to the MGM (at $139/night) and were very pleased with the rooms and the whole experience. Don%26#39;t stay there if you can avoid it.

Never had a problem there. The rooms are just fine.

go,

the kids will be back in school ,

I think we%26#39;ll do it. The worst case scenario- we%26#39;ll camp out at our friends room if there are no other rooms left and we hate it. I just need clean- don%26#39;t care much about new- at least when its free :)

You know, it just depends what you expect out of a hotel.

I have never been one to stay in the luxury hotels because I don%26#39;t want to spend that kind of money on a bed and a shower for a few nights, but some people do want that....to each his own.

The Excalibur is a decent hotel but not luxurious by any means. Our room was not dirty or disgusting in any way. I have some really fun memories of our stay there and don%26#39;t really recall too much about the room.

I use the hotel room to sleep and shower. I spend a total of about 5 hours aday in it. I have stayed at the Excalibur a number of times. The rooms were always clean. The AC is cold and the housekeeping gives you what you need.

Whenever possible, never stay in the ';standard'; room as it is the one that has not been updated. Instead, spend a little more and get an upgraded room. It will most likely have been more recenttly updated.

Of course you can%26#39;t beat free.

People have different ideas of what is a good room but the fact is that most hotel rooms are at least decent if you keep your expectations low.

Remember a 2 star room rate will at most likely get you a 2 or even a 3 star room but never a 5 star room.

I stayed there once 6 years ago and the rooms were newly refurbished...6 years ago...
