Can anybody give us ideas of places to see within an hour and a halfs drive from the strip.

I think Hoover Dam/Lake Mead/Valley of Fire is the best trip to take. Valley of Fire is absolutely stunning. You can take some short or long hikes or just drive around (get map from visitor%26#39;s center) stopping off to enjoy the scenery. Take food and water and stop at some of the picnic areas. You will not be disappointed. It is about an hour away.

Something closer- Red Rock Canyon. It is another favorite. It has a 13 mile loop you can drive with places to pull off the road. They also have hiking and bike trails. This is a favorite of rock climbers. It is very nice but really can%26#39;t compare with Valley of Fire. It is 20/30 minutes away from the strip.

valley of fire is pretty incredible if you haven%26#39;t spent much time in the desert.

much better than hoover dam or red rock, imo.

VOF was great.. walk around some of the rocks and under two of the arches.. really nice.
