Where to stay in Las vegas

Hello Everyone,

I am planning my first trip to Las Vegas and I wanted to know where I should stay in Las Vegas...What is the difference between the strip and the Fremont Street Downtown?

THanks

Where to stay in Las vegas

Let’s put it this way. If you like chaos, over priced restaurants/hotels/drinks, lots of shows and tourist attraction, children, and Disney like atmosphere then stay out of downtown as it has none of that. Downtown is strictly adult activities like inexpensive drinking, gambling, and street party.

jooky, what type of hotels, motel, do you normally like to stay in when you go somewhere else on vacation? How much $$ are you going to budget for a room? Will you be going Sun thre Thrurs or will your stay include weekend days (weekend rates can be twice as much as weekday rates)?

Is a pool important to you? Will you rent a car?

The Strip has the mega resort casinos. Many of them with a theme. There are also lots of shows/entertainment, restaurants, shopping, clubs and attractions/rides. Rates are usually higher than downtown and the limits are usually higher as well.

Downtown has more of the old Vegas feel. The casinos are much smaller, older and closer together. The Freemont Street Experience is a canopy that has laser light shows going on daily. The rates are lower and it%26#39;s easier to find lower table limits. There are also a few nice restaurants but not as many as the Strip.

For your fist time, I would recommend staying somewhere on the Strip and maybe visiting Downtown.

There is a huge difference between the strip and downtown. Downtown has a different feel to it than the strip. Most of the newer restaurants, shows, hotels are on the strip. The hotels downtown are older and they are close together. I would strongly recommend you stay on the strip for your first visit and go one night downtown to see what it is like. Most people come to Vegas to see the attractions on the strip. After that first visit some people then stay downtown or at one of the off-strip hotels.

if you%26#39;ve never been to vegas, you need only consult 3 sites

tripadvisor

cheapovegas

and the third is vegas4newbs{?}

a little help please^^^^^^^^^^^^

really, the first two is all you need

when looking at ANY MAP of vegas, keep in mind a casino downtown is the size of a large hotel. a casino on the strip is the size of a large mall and shopping center. most important if planning to walk the strip.

it seems like the strip takes almost an hour to drive at night

For a first trip, I definitely suggest the Strip . . . preferable somewhere between TI/Venetian and MGM/NYNY . . . check out a map at one of the Web sites listed.

The third site mentioned above is http://lasvegas4newbies.com/ . . . and is excellent!

No offense to the local expert but I agree with the other posters. Stay on the strip, marvel at the architecture, do the Ooooh and Ahhhh thing for your first trip. I would suggest Mirage, Paris, Venetian, Bellagio, Caesar%26#39;s or the like. However, do make sure you visit Fremont Street at night and then on future trips, when you care more about gambling then sight seeing, you%26#39;ll realize why I stayed at the Golden Nugget for the last 3 trips....

Downtown is creepy, depressing, full of lowlifes, and about as far from the atmosphere of toronto as you can get

The strip has nice new hotels with a nice resort vibe. Stay in

MGM Signature, MGM, Luxor, MonteCarlo,Paris,Ballys,Bellagio, Mirage, TI, Wynn, Rio(offstrip 1km, with shuttles)..you generally get what you pay for with these

For value, Harrahs(cheap if no convention)
