Dollar car rental at airport

I have rented cars twice over the last year at Dollar located at the airport. Everything is great inside the terminal, however, once at the car pick up location, the experience turns into a nightmare. Have waited up to an hour with a crowd of people just to claim a car as it has been returned from the prior renter. Time is too precious! Anyone else have a similar probelm?

Dollar car rental at airport

yes...every time

Dollar car rental at airport

Here is a better idea. Don%26#39;t rent a car at the airport. Wait till you get to the Hotel and just rent one for the days you will use it.

You will say a bunch of money on airport usage fees.

Dollar is still better than Budget (what a clusterf*ck that place is) My warning to all renting a car in Vegas, never ever rent from Budget.

Pick up at a hotel (I chose the Bellagio but dollar has a lot of locations in many hotels on the strip) and return it at the airport. There was about a five minute wait at the Bellagio. They do close at 5PM (I think that was the time) and from 12-1 they are sometimes closed for lunch-but it was very convenient.

take limo or taxi to hotel, time is too precious to waste. if you need a car rent one for the day(s) needed if going away from LV. If you are traveling strictly on the strip taxis work great. in the end money is not much more, you save a lot of time, gain convenience and do not need to worry having a DD.

Vegashomeboy - how much do you save? Enough to cover the taxi + tip to and from the airport? Not being a smarta$$, I%26#39;m seriously curious. We use our car every single day that we%26#39;re in Vegas (it baffles me how anyone enjoys the city without one) but is the difference between hotel %26amp; airport pick-up %26amp; drop off that major?

Depends a lot on dates. I just ran Dollar for Bally%26#39;s and the airport for 8-26 to 8-31.

Bally%26#39;s 135

Airport 206

The cost to rent from a hotel location is higher than from the airport baseyard....

For instance, using a late Sept/early Oct rental basis, an economy car from Dollar rented at the airport has a base price of $81 for a week and an ';all in'; cost (including taxes and fees) of $128.

If you rent from a Dollar location on the Strip or Downtown, the base rate is $124 per week and the ';all in'; cost is $149.

Throw in $15 to $20 cab fare each way from the airport to the hotel (or a probable drop-off fee if you take it back to the airport), and the cost of transportation by not renting at the airport is about $60, or 50%, higher for the week using an off-airport rental.

I agree...you HAVE to have a rental car to truly enjoy Vegas.

Interesting. For the dates of our trip (6 Sept to 10 Sept) a full size (what we have reserved already) is $114.22 from the airport and $134.67 from Bally%26#39;s.

I guess it pays to check though, given the $71 difference you came up with.

And back when we booked, we got a rate of $103 at the airport so I can%26#39;t complain!

Wow, VHB...

Don%26#39;t mean to be contradictory.

I just ran your dates on Expedia and the price for a Dollar economy car was the same as I quoted at the airport, at $128.

It was lower at the Strip location ($126), but only because it was a five-day (not weekly) rental basis for the dates you selected.

If you go for the whole week (';apples to apples';), the off-airport cost is $149.
