Drive time from Anaheim to Las Vegas

Hi,

I have read most of the posts about this subject and I hope I have not missed anything but can someone give me an idea for (approx) how long it would take to get from my hotel near Disneyland to Vegas on a Sunday morning. We plan to leave early and be on the road by 630 - 700am - we will be travelling on Sunday the 17th of December and plan to stop off at Johnny Reb%26#39;s at Bakersfield for a late breakfast.

We will be in a large car and we are used to driving on the %26#39;right%26#39; side of the road. I have downloaded a number of maps from a few sources and I am informed the trip takes just over 4 hours but I%26#39;m guessing it%26#39;s more like 5-6. I know we can%26#39;t factor all the variables into it but I would love some local knowledge.

Before you ask, we are from Australia and while a plane ride would be nice we are looking forward to getting a small glimpse of your %26#39;outback%26#39; by car and it%26#39;s not everyday you can rent a Cadillac in Australia with a XM radio - Yehah!

It all depends on day of the week and time of day. You have picked the best time because the traffic flow on Sunday is LV to LA. 4 hours if you don%26#39;t dilly dally around and get on with it. I don%26#39;t suggest you drive slower than the pace of traffic, or you will be saluted.

Scotty - I live about 30 miles from Disneyland and I drive to Vegas 4-5 times a year. Leaving on a Sunday morning by 700am you should be able to make it to Vegas in about 4 hours (not including your breakfast stop).

That is a good time to take the drive.... enjoy!

Whoa...Bakersfield is not on the 15. Wrong way. Would never go to Bakersfield on tourism. Had to go to a wedding there once, won%26#39;t do it again. Best thing there is Sonic Burger.

okay I would choose 57 North to Pomona to 60 East then15 North all the way to LV.

California drivers are aggresive.

1. watch the flow of traffic. it moves fast. Semi trucks I have seen go

70+ mph. Try to stay within the flow. It is scary when you are driving the ';speed limit'; and huge trucks are screaming pass you.

2. If you have a lot of time do Death Valley. bring water, seriously.

Thanks for clarifying that for me so quickly. I think that%26#39;s why I enjoy my visits to the US - we are mostly pretty laid back/bordering on lazy down here!

Can I ask just one more question please?

We will be returning monday to LA to fly out of LAX to NY at 1145pm so we plan on getting the rental car back by 7pm and showering and putting our feet up in the lounge prior to departure.

We were going to stop off at the outlets at Carlsbad on the way back to have a look around (but we will probably have seen most of the gear as we will have visited Camarillo Premium and also will have poked about some more outlets in Vegas) - should we expect the same travel times heading back - I appreciate we are going through LA during business hours - what do you suggest?

Thanks again.

Sorry, that%26#39;s Victorville for Johnny Reb%26#39;s for a late breakfast!

Scotty,

By what you%26#39;re saying, you are only spend one night in LV, or about 24 hours in Las Vegas......looks like you will be booking another trip to the United States soon :-).

Cheers

Scotty -- take the 57N to 210E to 15N. The 60 fwy is full of trucks (even on Sundays!).

As far as going to the Carlsbad Outlets -- do you mean you will be going down there after leaving Vegas? In my opinion, if you are going to the outlets in Vegas and Camarillo, I would skip it. Especially if you plan on driving there on a Monday afternoon which will definitely be more busy with traffic.

Lots of outlets in Vegas. You might be sick of outlets after that. I live near the outlets in Carlsbad. I like them but I prefer Cabazon in Palm Springs. If you want a great outdoor mall, try Fashion Island in Newport Beach. Carlsbad is about 1 hour south of OC without traffic. I use the term loosely there is almost always some traffic. If you have internet access before you leave go www.nbcsandiego.com-go to Traffic. It will give you a live traffic report of the freeways in So Cal. As i told another poster that just a few weeks ago it took me 1 hour to exit the 105 fwy at sepulveda to go to terminal 1 of LAX. Give yourself AMPLE time for LAX.

Where the 57 and 210 meet can be messy. I will admit once you get on the 210 it is nice. if you can check the traffic reports and choose then

Thanks IMHappyGirl

- I had from mapquest the CA-57 N toward Pomona then merge onto CA-91 E towards Riverside then merge into I-15 N towards Barstow - am I far off or will I get crushed?

I will be purchasing a good map before I leave but thus far i have been using the internet resources.

Thanks

PS. I will return for three or four days in Vegas. This trip will be just an appetiser!
