Family would like to go to Vegas
May I suggest you use the forum search to look at thousands of old posts about what to do in Vegas with kids. It%26#39;s a question that%26#39;s asked every few days or so.
Also get ready for some sharp replies from the %26#39;no kids in Vegas%26#39; lobby. They can get quite aggressive.......
Family would like to go to Vegas
Yes - put on your asbestos suit and do a search for ';kids'; in the search box ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
You will find tons of threads on this very topic. And you will find why some folks don%26#39;t want kids in Vegas. Consider it a learning tool, and you can have a great trip and avoid some difficult situations (e.g. porn slappers).
I just came back from Vegas with a girlfriend and saw plenty of miserable kids being dragged up and down the strip in 110 degrees.
When you get there know that everwhere you go is crowded. Very Crowded. Please plan on driving and using the valets at the hotels. The Flamingo has a great pool for kids. Madam Truseaus (sp?) wax Museum is really fun. M%26amp;M store has a big arcade down stairs lots of kids in there! Hoover Dam an ok trip with kids. Bellagio fountains is a fun 15 minutes, Luxor is cool, TI show is way too packed to even move or see the show. I have four kids so I know what it is to travel with %26#39;em. Do the four corners and Mesa Verde and that stuff, it may be more fun for them. Good Luclk.
Ignore the kids-in-Vegas bashers--if you plan it right, Vegas can be fun for kids.
Our family of four stayed at the Mandalay Bay for a couple of nights last summer--the kids (12 and 7) loved the lazy river and wave pool. Mandalay Bay is also good in the sense that it is not smoky (at least on week days), unlike many of the other casino-hotels.
We also drove to Grand Canyon from Vegas, and stayed overnight on the South Rim. Kids enjoyed that too.
There are many other sights that the kids might enjoy, including the Bellagio pools, the Paris Eiffel tower. Circus-circus also seems to be a hit with the kids.
If they like animals-Secret Garden/Dolphin Pool, the back of the Flamingo, Lion Habitat at MGM and maybe Shark Reef at MB (not sure it would be worth it with 3 kids). The Luxor has a theater that shows 3-D movies that are usually very good. CP has 2 moving statue shows every hour. You will find an M%26amp;M store on ths strip. If you are near the Mirage (on the hour) a volcano erupts. Avoid the Siren Show at TI- it is really bad for kids and adults. A very nice trip would be to Hoover Dam/Lake Mead/ Valley of Fire. Lake Mead does have a boat trip. Another great trip would be Red Rock Canyon-it is closer to the strip. There are some shows that are suitable for kids and aren%26#39;t that expensive -especially if you can get tickets at the 1/2 price kiosks on the strip.
Madam Tussandes just added Jenna Jameson for your viewing pleasure. I am sure kids will ask who dat. Yes there are some good things for kids like swimming pools, games, the fountains, but there are just too many things that 10 year olds will ask questions, you do not want to answer. and once they see and hear slot machines, it will be ingrained in their heads forever.
There are just too many better vacations for kids. Let them take you to Vegas when they turn 21
It can probably be done well with the proper planning. With a six year old its going to be tough - just because they tire easy in the heat and get cranky. As someone else said - make sure to drive from hotel to hotel and valet it. The kids will stay out of the heat and will have frequent breaks. Also - by doing it this way you avoid alot of the pron slappers. We didnt walk too much this time and hardly saw any. Staying in a hotel with a great pool is probably a must and then do all the things mentioned above. The Bellagio FOuntains, Luxor, Dolphin Habitat at Mirage, maybe the Star Trek experience, some of the roller coasters etc. Make a point to go out to Red Rock or Valley of Fire. Theres more to Vegas than just the strip. Grand Canyon is a long car ride ...the other alternative is to go on a helicopter trip - however, being on a budget that might not work. Whatever you do, plan to end your days at a reasonable hour. There is nothing more pathetic than seeing miserable kids out at 2 am.
Side note: saw a woman yelling at her 4/5 year old for being whiny and misbehaving...hmmmm could it have been that it was 2AM and the poor kid was whacked out from exhaustion....some people.
Have a great trip!
if you have any choice, don%26#39;t take your kids.
