Rampart Casino

Hi Everyone,

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this board for the past week and now I feel like jumping into the fray! The wife and I are going to Vegas for the first time the week of Feb 5th. Staying the first 4 nights at ';The Sig'; and rounding it out with a one night stay at JW.

Any insight on what the Rampart casino is like? I know the Marriot properties are all going smoke-free; would that include the Rampart?

Thanks! Dave

Rampart Casino

AlbanyDave,

Well it was a little more than a year ago when we last stayed there, but I doubt much has changed. My wife and I are fourtysomethings, and did our trip just the opposite of yours. We started at JWM for one night and then moved to the strip.

The Marriott was very nice, much like many other Marriott resorts that we%26#39;ve stayed at. In fact, the Marriott Rewards program was one of the reasons we decided to give it a try. That, plus it was rated so highly on TA. Unfortunately, we were quite disappointed with the Rampart Casino. It%26#39;s dark, smokey, (and since it is not run by Marriott, I would assume that it is not smoke-free today) and lacks any vibe whatsoever. It is definately a locals joint, and seems to cater to the senior crowd with hourly raffles and other giveaways.

For people looking to get away from the strip I recommend either Green Valley Ranch or Red Rock Casino. If you do decide to stay there, take advantage of the fact that JWM is a short drive to Rosemary%26#39;s restaurant.

Thanks for the response.. It is much appreciated! You mentioned Rosemary%26#39;s; is that a someplace I should dine when I%26#39;m there?

I need restaurant suggestions and I%26#39;ll check this place out.

thanks! dave

Rosemary%26#39;s is a great restaurant. The food and service are both excellent. You will not be disappointed. They sometimes have coupons for the restaurant on restaurant.com.

Highly recommended. Do a forum search for %26#39;Rosemary%26#39;s%26#39; to see all the old posts about this great restaurant.

If you stay at the JWM and if there is time, I%26#39;d suggest, if you are a blackjack player, that you also visit the Suncoast Casino (which is practically next door) for its two-deck blackjack games. And, since you are in the vicinity anyway, visit the beautiful Red Rock Hotel/Casino which is just a few miles west on Charleston Road.

For a campy and low-cost lunch or snack (compared to prices at the JWM) with a lot to choose from, grab a meal at the Whole Foods Market on the SE corner of Rampart and Charleston. They even have free Internet access in their small seating area.
