New Year's Eve

We are staying at the Barbary Coast over New Years and wonder whether there are fireworks etc. on the strip to see or whether you need to go Downtown for a party atmosphere?

New Year's Eve

Don%26#39;t panic! The Strip is THE place to be for firework action on NYE with the hotels all trying to outdo one another. Just remember that the Strip gets beyond crazy that night and a lot of hotels admit their own guests only after a certain time. If I were staying at BC, bearing in mind how congested it can get around there on any busy night, I%26#39;d make sure I was safely in the hotel quite early. Have fun!

New Year's Eve

If you%26#39;re lucky, you%26#39;ll have a room overlooking Flamingo and you%26#39;ll see many fights.

When you say ';be in your hotel early'; do you mean in our room or just ';in the hotel';? What is your idea of early as we are not all-nighters like some of you! I%26#39;m bringing ear-plugs just in case so we can get some sleep as return to UK on 2nd and that journey is bad enough without doing it on no sleep!

It%26#39;s been many years since I was in LV for NYE (I%26#39;m a bit too old for it these days!) so I%26#39;m guessing slightly and going off what others have said. I wouldn%26#39;t stray too far from the corner of the Strip and Flamingo Road after 8pm and I%26#39;d be back in BC before 10. I%26#39;m sure others who%26#39;ve been more recently will be able to give more accurate timings.

Sorry, didn%26#39;t really answer the main question. Just be inside the hotel having fun. No need to lock yourselves in your room!

We are going NYE staying at Bally%26#39;s and looking forward to it.

We are in our 50s and thought Vegas would be fun for NYE but am a bit worried by Blagger%26#39;s remarks that it sounds dangerous even mid-strip and why would hotels shut people out? Hope we haven%26#39;t bitten off more than we can chew! Thought we%26#39;d need to be outside to see the fireworks and thought perhaps over Bellaggio fountains would be pretty.

jcpilgrims, NYE isn%26#39;t %26#39;dangerous%26#39;, just very, very, very crowded. Moving about the Strip can be virtually impossible in places and outside of BC with its narrow sidewalks I would guess is one of the worst places. Maybe somebody with recent Vegas NYE experience could help us on this one.

I was on the strip one NYE because I wanted to see what it was like. If you have ever seen what Times Square (NYC) is like, you will have a good idea about Vegas. They close the streets and highway ramps late afternoon. The strip then starts filling up with people. By midnight it is a mob scene-wall to wall people. Most of them are feeling no pain by that time. Sometimes you really can%26#39;t move on your own-you have to go with the crowd. You can see the fireeworks from the strip. I would suggest you try to stay close to your hotel. If you end up far from your hotel, it might be a while before you can make your way back. Some hotels won%26#39;t let people in without showing a key. If all you want to do is see fireworks- leave the hotel and try to stay put. Some people love this atmosphere while others don%26#39;t (I didn%26#39;t) but you should have no problems if you just stay near your hotel.

I agree with the previous posters, it%26#39;s VERY crowded, you can%26#39;t move on your own, you move with the crowd. I%26#39;ve done it once and now I know it%26#39;s not my cup of tea, but like they said, some people love it!

The hotels only admit their guests after a certain time for security reasons: As packed as the strip gets and as drunk as people get, it would be hard to control a crowd inside the casinos, so in my opinion, it%26#39;s a very good thing.
