I departed on Wednesday afternoon 8/16 and didn%26#39;t have any unusual delays getting to the Southwest gate. The security line was actually shorter and moved faster than in October (that was a Monday, if it makes any difference). I was surprised that they weren%26#39;t hand-searching carryons for liquids or gels. It only took us about 40 minutes from curbside to gate. The longest delay was waiting for a Southwest kiosk to print our boarding passes.
I would still allow plenty of time. Anything could happen between now and then, and TSA stats show that McCarran has one of the longer average wait times.
I left LAS on the 12th. The check-in lines were longer than usual but nothing outrageous. Security moved quickly. On the day the crisis started, they were telling everyone to be there 4 hours before the flight but by the next day things had settled down and they said this was no longer necessarty, They did warn that Sunday was the worst day to leave so they were warning people to get there extra early. From what I have read on other sites this seems to be the case- the week-ends can have much longer lines. Be sure to print your boarding pass before getting to the airport, be extra sure you don%26#39;t have any banned items in your carry-on (my mascara got through) and try to bring just a carry-on. Use curbside check in if you check - in luggage.
We arrived in Vegas on 8/18 at 10:30 pm from LA, the only crowded area was lugguage pick up and the cab line.
When we left on Monday, 8/21 our flight was at 4:00. We went through check in and security very quickly.
No problems what so ever. ( we flew in on United and out on US Air)
The girl in line in front of me was carrying an electric guitar on in a soft case. she had a foot pedal(tremelo=reverb) in the case, ie black box with a button. When they saw it in the xray machine, they went nuts thinking it was a detonator. thankfully I got to go to another line.
I think the TSA crew is deathly afraid they will actually find a real threat. They were afraid to remove the guitar from the case. The girl should have left the guitar at home.
Departed on 8/24 on a 9 am Delta flight. Arrived 7:40 and needed nearly an hour to get through Concourse D security station. Many people were begging to be let through ahead and running to catch their flights. Concourse C did not seem to have the same long line, so it seems to vary by time of day and concourse. No brainer: give yourself the extra time these days unless you like the feeling of not knowing if you%26#39;ll make it or not.
Forgot to explicitly state that I already had my boarding pass and did not check luggage, so that was how long it took going straight to concourse security.
Hey people, a little reminder-
Do not put dynamite in your suitcases.
Do not bring penis pumps on airplanes.
Do not push flight attendants
Do not leave knives on empty seats
Do not remove panels from the lavatory wall.
I know it sounds silly to have to remind people of this, but in the last 72 hours people have done these things and then some.
hmm, heard about all of those except the penis pump!! Interesting!!
CHICAGO - Cook County prosecutors say a 29-year-old man traveling with his mother desperately didn%26#39;t want her to know he%26#39;d packed a sexual aid for their trip to Turkey. So he told security it was a bomb, officials said.
Madin Azad Amin was stopped by officials on Aug. 16 after guards found an object in his baggage that resembled a grenade, prosecutors said.
When officers asked him to identify it, Amin said it was a bomb, said Cook County Assistant State%26#39;s Attorney Lorraine Scaduto.
He later told officials he%26#39;d lied about the item because his mother was nearby and he didn%26#39;t want her to hear that it was part of a penis pump, Scaduto said.
He%26#39;s been charged with felony disorderly conduct, said Andrew Conklin, a spokesman with the Cook County state%26#39;s attorney%26#39;s office.
Amin faces up to three years in prison if convicted.
