Trip Report - Venetian - 8/18-8/22 Part 2 (long)

After getting our car it was about 11:30 am. We headed down to the Venetian hoping our room was ready. Found our way to the Venezia tower for check in and there was no one in line. Our room, originally a Bella View, wasnt yet ready. I asked about a different room - maybe one with a king rather than 2 gueens. I was told there was one, but that it was on the concierge floor. I looked at my husband and back at the agent... whats the damage for that ine?, I asked. He laughed, typed and said that I could get it for $40/day more. Considering I already had a good rate I took it. It was definitely worth it. It also wasnt ready but our bags were with the bellman so we went and had lunch. Ate at the Grand Lux Cafe. We both had burgers and people watched for a while. Reasonable on the prices and the service was prompt.

After lunch we tried (rather I tried) some casino war. Last year I won $400 playing this. This year, I quickly lost $100. I left as fast as possible. We called up to see if our room was ready. It wasn%26#39;t. It was now a little after 3. We went and got players cards and tried some slots, Not much luck and an hour later we were down $100. Concierge called my cell to let me know our room was ready at 4:00 pm.

We were on the 12th floor with a beautiful view of the Venezia pool garden. Breakfast was included each day as well as afternoon snacks (high tea), happy hour from 5-8 with full open bar and beverages throughout the day. We thought it was well worth the $40/day.

The room was very nice, but didn%26#39;t seem any different than the regular suites aside from having nicer sheets and a tv in the bathroom. Even this room showed a little bit of wear with a couple pretty big stains in the carpet and one on the couch. Nice big towels in the bathroom which had an awesome soaking tub and separate shower. I liked the vanity. Side note: after seeing all the signs proclaiming things ';Best in Vegas'; (best prime rib, best shrimp cocktail, best black jack etc etc) hubby voted the bathroom best place to take a dump. Talk about classy -

Headed out to see the Titanic exhibit. Valet brought the car around in under 10 minutes. We headed down to the Tropicana via Koval. Great shortcut if you%26#39;ve already seen the strip and want to avoid the traffic. Cuts the time in half, if not more. If you haven%26#39;t seen the exhibit before, you have the option of getting the audio as well. That cost an additional $5. They also give you a faux boarding pass and let you know to view the memorial at the end to see if you survived or not. We skipped the audio portion. There were a lot of artifacts as you can imagine and story boards telling the history of the ship and some of its passengers. Even though I had read a lot about the Titanic, I didn%26#39;t know that Captain Smith was chosen for the cruise because of his personality and charm as well his experience. He often took new ships out on their maiden voyages. Turns out this was to be his last before retiring. Oops. I survived. (Molly Brown - didnt even have to read the memorial for that one!)Anyway - I would reccomend it to anyone into the Titanic or ships for that matter. Hit the tables in Tropicana afterwards. Played $10 blackjack - in for $100 and colored up $300. Not bad for 15 minutes. Hotel is definately dated, but doesnt seem too bad. Met a dealer at the rapid roulette table who was from my home town.

Headed back to Venetian to get changed and cleaned up a bit before seeing Penn %26amp; Teller. I was ready to sleep, but willed myself on. I had seen P%26amp;T a few years back, but DH had not. We had excellent 6th row seats. The show had a few new things added to it so it was enough to keep me entertained. I think I caught DH napping at one slow point. Penn had a drunk heckler so that made for a few interesting exhanges. Its a funny show and I would reccomend it if you like their humor at all. Afterwards we got their autographs and had our pictures taken with them. They are very nice and take plenty of time to get everyone who wants a chance at an autograph or photo.

At edinner at Buzio%26#39;s in the RIO. Awesome crab cakes and the surf and surf special was a lobster tail and king crab legs. I had just the king crab which were so huge...I couldnt finish them. DH took care of any leftovers. Service was a bit slow, but it was near closing time. Price was higher than expected, but overall the food was so good I didnt care. Headed back to the V and we were greeted to bottled water, chocolates on the pillows and turn downed sheets. We were asleep before our heads hit the pillows.

Tomorrow - Red Rock, Lunch at Strat, Big wins at Hooters, LaReve and more.

Trip Report - Venetian - 8/18-8/22 Part 2 (long)

I dont mean to criticize here, but allow me to play devils advocate for just a second...

You mentioned you and your husband were both ';professionals'; and enjoy the good things in life when traveling. A lot of people take that the wrong way and think you are being snobbish and/or trying to rub your good fortune in their faces. Personally, I dont feel that way about what you wrote at all.

Now, had you just said you and the hubby were in your 30%26#39;s and left out the part about what you do for a living, I bet the idiot posters would have been cut in half.

Just my two cents... hope you enjoyed your trip.

Trip Report - Venetian - 8/18-8/22 Part 2 (long)

Ok folks - give it a rest ok? I took the heat in the other post and then typed out this one for the select few who were human enough to ask. Stop berating me for no reason. I will not apologize in any way for describing myself as a mid 30%26#39;s professional - thats what I am...I am not a 20 something college kid, I am not a 60+ retiree, nor am I in my 40%26#39;s living comfortably well. I am a mid 30%26#39;s white collar professional and the husband is a mid 30%26#39;s blue collar professional. If someone feels slighted by those facts then that is on them. Get over it, move on, spank your inner moppet...whatever. Give me a break already. Aside from the horrorific spelling in my last post (brought on mostly by sleep deprivation), I have neither done nor said anything offensive to anyone. You devil%26#39;s advocates however, are looking for trouble for some reason I cannot explain.

Rest assured I did enjoy my trip and had many interesting points to share and thoughts to offer. However - since they are apparently not welcome here - I will keep them to myself.

It would be a shame not to read the rest of what has been a very good and interesting trip report. Ignore the morons because there are many who just want to read tthe end of your report .

I agree. You%26#39;ve gotten some really unfair abuse. What a shame.

Thanks for the Titanic info.

TG970--what a stupid post! You weren%26#39;t playing devil%26#39;s advocate----you were being nasty so get over yourself. The OP had posted about her flight previously! This was a report about her experiences in LV.

I enjoyed it and look forward to the next instalment.

Please continue with your trip report!!!!

I was walking down the street when a bum asked me for some spare change. He said he has been asking for change the past 13 years. I guess that makes him a ';Professional'; panhandler.

%26#39;hubby voted the bathroom best place to take a dump%26#39;

... as opposed to the lobby?!

Only kidding - just trying to lighten the mood.

Great report. Am heading for Vegas again in a couple of weeks and was thinking of going to see Penn %26amp; Teller - sounds like it could be fun.

I am enjoying reading your trip reports. It is nice to hear that someone ate at a restaurant at the Rio that wasn%26#39;t the buffet.

Can you elaborate on the ';high tea'; ? I absolutely love high tea. I had heard that there were only 3 places in vegas to get that...and this wasn%26#39;t one of them.

I always try to stay on the concierge level. Definately loving the perks! High tea seems to come in various forms....did they serve Devonshire Cream and Scones?

I would like to finish reading the rest of your TR....please don%26#39;t let those few idiots on here ruin it for the rest of us.....Just don%26#39;t comment back to them and just ignore them.....continue, please.
