Trip Report - Venetian - 8/18-8/22 Part 3 (long)

Saturday we woke up a bit later than we had hoped. I think it was around 9:00 am. We threw on some clothes and went to the lounge for some breakfast. They had coffee, juice, water etc and fresh fruit, bagels, muffins, dry cereal and cinnamon rolls. Very Good. We ate a bit and grabbed a couple bottled waters and headed out. I played some more blackjack and won another $100. Made sure to leave quickly since I was on a downward spin. Met up with another couple and decided to grab some lunch since it was now 12:30.

None us us had ever been up in the Stratosphere so we headed there for lunch. The restaurant, Top of the World, was pricier than we expected, but decided to stay. The view was amazing and they gave you unlimited champagne. I ordered the Kobe Beef Burger as did my friend. The guys each had a chicken and pasta dish. The bill for 4 was just about $120. After about an hour, the slow turning got to be a bit too much and since we had made the enitre revolution we got of there. We saw the Red Rock Casino from up there so we decided to check it out.

It was about a 30 minute drive - maybe less. What a beautiful place - all earth tones and a subtle, modern design. Tons of machines and a decent amount of tables. Had all the usual restaurants, clubs, etc. Seems like a nice place to be, but far from the strip. I won another $200 at blackjack and DH about $100 at the Wheel of Fortune .25 slots. We stayed there for a couple hours. The dealers were all friendly, drink service was fast - even at the machines. Valet was speedy as well. I think I%26#39;d like to spend a night there next trip.

Since our friends had never been downtown we took them there. The reaction was as expected...mouths hanging open in amazement. In less than 5 minutes, security hauled off 2 drunks yelling and kicking. Stopped in Mermaids for the beads. Cocktail servers here are definitely a few notches down from the strip girls, but they are friendly just the same. Sat at a nickel machine while waiting for the drinks and put $10 in. 3 spins in I hit a 2000 coin jackpot. Never got so excited about $100. They bring you a ton of beads when you hit the ';biggies';.

From there we were hungry and wanted steak. Not sure where to go we saw a steak place in Binions. I think it was called the Ranch Steak House (used to be The Mint) lights of the strip were beautiful. I had escargot as an appetizer and then ordered the prime rib. OMG - it was huge. And the taste was amzing and so tender - hardly had to chew. It took up almost the entire plate. Good thing I didnt get the Binions cut! I used to think that The Steakhouse at CC was the best, but given the view, the piano player and the service, I think this might take The Steakhouse down a notch.

Headed back downstairs, caught another light show (which seemed a bit lame with alien invasions) and headed back to the hotel. Played some more blackjack but lost the $100 I had won earlier in the day. Called it a night. Have to say walking into the room with sheets turned back and bottled water waiting is quite nice. One more installment to go...LaReve, Fontana Bar, Mirage, etc.

Thanks for the reports so far. Very informative. My question to you is where exactly in Binions is the Steak House and also do you recall the prices? I%26#39;ll be downtown in about 10 days and that sounds good.

Good TR . Next time we are in Vegas , I think a stop at Mermaids is due . We have been downtown before , but have never stopped to play .

Glad you haven%26#39;t been discouraged from continuing your TR. Have enjoyed all 3, so far. Anxious to hear about the big win at Hooters. We stayed at the Hotel San Remo (now Hooters) on our first few trips to Vegas and the machines there were usually pretty friendly. We didn%26#39;t get a chance to check out Hooters when we were there in February, but is on my ';to do list'; for October.

Buckeye - The Ranch Steakhouse is at the top of the hotel. Here is a link to their menu

Staying at the Red Rock is wonderful, I can%26#39;t recommend it highly enough. Their rooms are the nicest I%26#39;ve had in Vegas, and in the top five nicest I%26#39;ve stayed in around the world.

And if you take the Summerlin Pkwy, it%26#39;s really only a 15 minute drive from the strip.

Thanks SftbllHuny for the Binions info. The menu definitely looks like we should give it a try.

Too bad there are so many crass, rude sad little people in the world. Its a shame they have to follow others around the forum and interject their rude and unwanted comments.

There are probably a ton of people who dont frequent this board because of some of you. Good decent people who just want to participate in some vegas talk and get useful information - whether its spelled correctly or not. Whether or not I am professional, blue collar or white trash - I have never spoken down to any of you... that does not make me a crybaby. Rather it makes me want to shove my size 8%26#39;s right up your behinds.

So, did you have the ';high tea'; while at the hotel?
